Project Description:

The Vale Health and Wellness Centre is currently undergoing a major rehabilitation of all roof components including the drainage system.

With over 100,000 square feet of roof area, the entire roof system is being revitalized. The project entails replacing the central gutter system that collects water from the roof, as well as applying a waterproof membrane across the entire roof to enhance its water-resistance capabilities.

Background:

In 2022 the City contacted Weatherproof Technologies, a company which specializes in all materials required to provide a complete enclosed building envelope, for assistance in determining why and where the Vale Health and Wellness Centre roof was leaking. Weatherproof Technologies assessed the Vale Health and Wellness Centre and determined the gutter system in which all the water is captured from the roof to be the main failure point for the leaks seen throughout the building.

In January of 2023, Council received a presentation from Weatherproof Technologies outlining the issues found in the roof system, the solution to the issues, and a cost estimate. Council approved the $2,100,000 option to completely rebuild the gutter and coat the roof in a membrane to add an additional layer of waterproofing.

With a plan in place, bids were requested from roofing contractors to complete the work. Flynn Canada was awarded the contract, and construction began in May of 2023.

Approved Budget:

Total Approved Budget: $2,100,000

  • City Funding: $1,567,952.79
  • Canada Community-Building Fund: $532,047.21

Grants:

A portion of this project has been funded through the CCBF (Canada Community-Building Fund), previously known as the Gas Tax Fund.

Estimated Completion:

December 2023
