<p class="p1">The City of Port Colborne is looking for resident input on the redevelopment of Lock 8 Gateway Park&nbsp;as part of the overarching 2020-2030 Parks and Recreation Master Plan.</p><p class="p1">Lock 8 Gateway Park is located at Main Street West and the Welland Canal.</p><h4 class="p2"><strong>The Study:</strong></h4><p class="p3">Parks offer many benefits to the City of Port Colborne. Lock 8 Gateway Park is an important green&nbsp;space that offers residents the opportunity to watch ships moving through the canal; have a picnic,&nbsp;enjoy an event, or bring your family to enjoy the playground or the Algoport Skate and BMX Park.</p><p class="p3">The City of Port Colborne is exploring updates to the park and is looking for feedback on how residents use the park, and how they would like to see the spaced updated in the future.&nbsp;</p><h4 class="p3"><br><strong>Online Public Engagement Survey:</strong></h4><p class="p3">A public engagement survey will be conducted between October 16, 2023, and November 17, 2023 on the <a aria-label="city’s website. opens in new window" href="https://forms.portcolborne.ca/Lock-8-Gateway-Park-Engagement-Survey" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Open new window to view city’s website.">city&rsquo;s <span class="s1">website.&nbsp;</span></a>Hard copies of the survey will be available at Port Colborne City Hall, Vale Health&nbsp;and Wellness Centre and the Port Colborne Library. Short-Term Rentals in Port Colborne

<h1>Project Description:</h1><p>The Vale Health and Wellness Centre is currently undergoing a major rehabilitation of all the components of its roof and drainage system that have been the result of leaks seen throughout the facility.</p><p>&nbsp;With over 100,000 square feet of roof area, the entire roof system is being revitalized to address ongoing leaks throughout the facility. The project entails replacing the main gutter system that collects water from the roof, as well as applying a waterproof membrane across the entire roof to enhance its water-resistance capabilities.</p><h1>Roof Rehabilitation Project:</h1><p>In 2022 the City contacted Weatherproof Technologies, a company which specializes in all materials required to provide a complete enclosed building envelope, for assistance in determining why and where the Vale Health and Wellness Center roof was leaking. Weatherproof Technologies assessed the Vale Health and Wellness Center and determined the gutter system in which all the water is captured from the roof to be the main failure point for the leaks seen throughout the building.</p><p>In January of 2023, Council received a presentation from Weatherproof Technologies outlining the issues found in the roof system, the solution to the issues, and a cost estimate. Council approved the $2,100,000 option to completely rebuild the gutter and coat the entire roof in a membrane to add an additional layer of waterproofing.</p><p>With a plan in place, bids were requested from roofing contractors to complete the work. Flynn Canada was awarded the contract, and construction began in May of 2023.</p><h2>Approved Budget:</h2><h2>$2,100,000</h2><p>A portion of this project has been funded through the CCBF (Canada Community-Building Fund), previously known as the Gas Tax Fund.&nbsp;</p><h2>Estimated Completion:</h2><h2>August 2023</h2><p><br></p><h1><br></h1>

Vale Health & Wellness Centre Roof Rehabilitation 

<h1>Project Description:</h1><p>The Friendship Trail Upgrades project was initiated to review existing conditions and provide recommended safety requirements, wayfinding, and improved esthetics. The project was approved in January 2022, where Council adopted a new standard crossing and signage in accordance with current guidelines and best practices. &nbsp;</p><p>The new standard includes:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Measures to improve the sight distance visibility of approaching vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclist,</li><li>Accessibility in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act</li><li>Signage that reinforces attention to &ldquo;Stop-Look-Listen&rdquo; before crossing streets.</li><li>Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and Trans Canada Trail logos into proposed signage for wayfinding capability</li><li>Deterring motorized vehicles from using the trail including ATV and other motorized vehicles</li></ul><p>City staff have retained a qualified consultant to finalize designs of the signage along the trail which includes mapping for each area locations. The final designs will be presented to the Active Transportation Advisory Committee for review and comment.</p><p>Upon completion and approval of the designs, it is anticipated that City staff will move to the procurement stage of the project. City staff anticipate the new signs will be ready for installation in the Spring 2024.&nbsp;</p><h1>Background:</h1><p>The Friendship Trail is a City owned trail connecting the rural to the urban area of Port Colborne. The trail is part of the larger Greater Niagara Circle Route trail system spanning over 140 kilometers. The trail is paved, off-road and provides multi-use availability suitable for walking, cycling or rollerblading. The Friendship Trail portion (shared with Fort Erie and Port Colborne) is designated as part of the provincially significant 3600 kilometer Great Lakes Waterfront trail and the national Trans Canada Trail.&nbsp;</p><p>Port Colborne&#39;s Friendship Trail segment begins at Holloway Bay Road running parallel to the north shoreline of Lake Erie for 10 kilometers. This trail is 3 meters wide passing through lush farmland, quant villages including Sherkston and Gasline before arriving at Port Colborne&#39;s Welland Canal and historic West Street. The trail receives a variety of user groups including leisurely riders to groups and tours of bikers and serves as an important link between the Town of Fort Erie, Town of Wainfleet and the City of Welland.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;In 2021, City staff were informed of concerns regarding the safety and accessibility at the rural road crossings. It was requested a standard crossing design be applied to the rural section of the Trail.&nbsp;</p><h2 id="approved-budget---750-000-2">Approved Budget:&nbsp;</h2><h2>$102,000</h2><h2 id="estimated-completion--june-2023-4">Estimated Completion:</h2><h2>May 2024&nbsp;</h2>

Friendship Trail Upgrades

<h1>Project Description</h1><p>The scope of this project is to give an assessment of the current playground structure and to give recommendations on how to provide a better existing standard playground in this area. The process of the project will consist of .&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Assessment of current playground system</li><li>Addition of an inclusive swing feature</li><li>Removal and replacement of old swing set</li><li>Installation of 3-5 year old play structure within current play area</li><li>Installation of Rubber CSA &nbsp;approved fall surface</li></ul><h1><br></h1><h1>Background</h1><p>The Victoria Playground Park, located on the east side of canal two blocks blocks south of Clarence Street and the lift bridge, The park is in close proximity to the Friendship Trail and the Canal Trail System, The park is flanked to the north and south by residential houses with Welland Street and Fares Street to the east and west. The refresh project is initiated based on the 2023 budget approvals through Council. This project will look to address the items found as recommendations in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.</p><p>The Recommendations are as follows;</p><ul><li>Promote a cohesive package that unifies site elements. (Site furniture, trash receptacles, other outdoor furniture)</li><li>No edger at play structure.</li><li>Add a bicycle rack</li><li>The walkway through the site is in disrepair and needs updating which would be an opportunity to add access paths to the play area and seating.</li></ul><p><br></p><h2>Approved Budget:<br>$254,000</h2><h2>Estimated Completion:</h2><h2>November 2023</h2><p>This project will be completed in 2023</p>
